Mask I care?

In a dire time of uncertainty during the pandemic, masks have become critical in everyday living. According to medical practitioners, surgical masks still offer the best protection against foreign particles.

However, there is new evidence to support the assertion that fabric masks do offer protection against foreign particles. By using fabric masks, we are saving the surgical masks for our medical frontline staff, who face COVID-19 patients head-on every day. They need it more!

So how do you preserve and maintain your reusable mask for as long as the circuit breaker period prevails? According to the CDC (Centre for Disease Control), machine washing is enough to disinfect your fabric- or cloth-based masks. It is also advisable to have at least two masks per person – one to wear while the other is being washed.

Here’s also sharing some of the commonly asked questions from our customers.

What is the material of your fabric mask?

Our masks are made from our premium 100% 2-ply Egyptian Cotton shirting fabrics that are highly breathable and comfortable on the skin.

They are excess fabrics at our workshop that are not in season but great to be made into face masks to give the fabric a new lease of life. It’s part of our up-cycling effort to reducing fabric waste which accounts to 16% in Singapore and join the Government’s move to becoming a zero-waste nation.

Do I machine wash or hand wash the mask?

As our fabric masks are handout and handmade from quality 100% 2-ply Egyptian Cotton by our team of sewers. Hand washing is preferred to preserve the longevity of these masks. This can be done simply by running clean warm water over the mask and then rubbing it with soap.

Why does the mask wrinkle after wash? Do I need to iron my mask?

It depends on how the mask is washed and dry. Cotton does not need to be washed at high heat, and it is less likely to wrinkle if you line dry.

Cotton (from cotton flower) has a substance called cellulose, which contains hydrogen. Hence, when cotton reacts to water it causes the fabric to bend out of shape and form wrinkles in the cloth.

So yes, it’s recommended to iron your mask before wear. Just like one would press your business shirts before wear for a crisp fall nice fall/shape.

Why are the elastic bands for some of the masks different?

There is a shortage of elastic bands due to the high demand. Many of our suppliers are not operating during this circuit breaker period, as such, we are using elastic bands from a few different suppliers. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.

Can I choose the colours or designs of the masks?

You can select from our existing collection on our Facebook Washable/Reusable Masks Album. They come in assorted prints, designs, textures and colours. To add, some of our mask designs are reversible in design, meaning you can use both side as the filter insert opening is at the bottom of the mask. On special request, we do offer customisation of initial embroidery on the masks.

Should children wear a mask?

Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

How should I dry it?

Do it the organic way! Experts also advise that it is best to sun/dry your masks for at least 1 hour of mid-day sun exposure.

Can I boil the mask?

Yes, you can but the downside is degrading the quality of the fabric over time.

Why don’t you provide filter for the fabric mask?

No, we do not provide filter for our 2-ply cotton mask as we would not want to run the risk of getting non-approved grade of filter from non-approved sources, as our customer’s safety comes first.

Can I get a refund or an exchange the masks?

Due to the nature of the product, and for personal hygiene safety, we do not accept exchanges or refunds.
